DG Visits ZPD, Zone-II, Kolkata

DG, ICAR visits Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-II, Kolkata

Hon’ble Secretary, DARE and DG, ICAR, Dr. S. Ayyappan today visited Zonal Project Directorate, Zone-II, Salt Lake, Kolkata and interacted with the Scientist and staff of the Directorate. Dr A. K. Singh, Zonal Project Director, welcomed the DG and made a brief presentation about the Directorate and its salient achievements. The Directorate monitors 83 KVKs spread across West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Three more KVKs in West Bengal are to be established, these are East Midnapore, Murshidabad and Burdwan. For the first time, a Management Information System (MIS) for KVKs has been developed in this Directorate. This enables quick retrieval of information, for better monitoring.

KVK is a front line extension mechanism and is different from mainstream extension system of the line departments. KVKs need to package its achievements and communicate the same to the stakeholders. Engaging people representatives in matter of farm sector development is equally important, says Dr. Ayyappan.

He urged scientists of the Directorate to conceive projects on real time monitoring of KVKs; online reporting systems; stringent evaluation etc. Making difference in people’s lives should be the yardstick for successful extension work.
