This initiative strengthened the value chain for GI-tagged Kandhamal Organic Turmeric through standardized organic protocols, traceability, and collective marketing. Farmer groups were supported to adopt seed rhizome selection, soil fertility based on organic amendments, and post-harvest curing and polishing consistent with GI specifications. Quality assurance and branding improved market differentiation, enabling better price realization and stable buyer linkages. The model underscores how GI protection, when coupled with producer organization and compliance, can upgrade smallholder market participation.
