Rice has been important and chief food in Bengali’s kitchen. But the traditional refined white rice which is consumed at household generally only contains starch other than outer bran and germ parts which lacks many health benefits as compared to brown rice. Research has shown that white rice is associated with high cause of type 2 diabetes and brown rice with lower risk. Brown rice contain high source of dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals and also antioxidant property beneficial for human body. But production of brown rice with traditional Dheki is toilsome and time-consuming. Moreover, this device needs three operators, two for pressing the lever and the other for churning/mixing the grain in the cavity and finally removing the milled rice-husk-bran mix from the cavity. Milling capacity of this traditional dhenki is about 50 kg in a shift of 8 hours. The Motorized Dhenki is developed over the traditional dhenki eliminating the need for foot-pressing and providing mechanized agitation to reduce the risk by hand churning and the manual labour with milling capacity of 200 kg paddy in 8 hour shift.
